Meet Robin

Robin Gueth, Founder & Owner

As the founder and owner of the Stress Management Center of Marin, Robin wears many hats – from a skilled yoga therapist to mentor and trainer of other therapists, and popular public speaker in her community. Giving back to her profession, she Chaired Accreditation for the International Association of Yoga Therapists (IAYT). Robin’s unparalleled blend of down-to-earth wisdom, knowledge of anatomy and yoga practices, decades of global experience and training, professional connections, and warm spirit are the driving force behind SMC.

After I ruptured a disc in my back, I tried everything to relieve the pain - acupuncture, chiropractor, meds, etc.  Before surgery, a friend suggested Robin and yoga therapy.  Incredibly, after the first session, the back pain and numbness in my leg disappeared.  The stretching sessions have returned me to normal activities and kept me from going under the knife.  Thanks, Robin!

Robin's Story

Born and raised in Indiana, Robin was and still is a Quaker farm girl at heart. As a child, the only decoration in the Friends Meeting she attended was a banner that read, “Never judge a man until you walk a mile in his moccasins.” This is the ethos that has informed Robin’s yoga practice from its inception, and which is the foundational philosophy of the Stress Management Center.

Robin’s personal yoga practice began as a way to address severe pain in her neck after a fall as a child. In using yoga to address the injury, she discovered that a yoga practice can be a healing and transformative art. Originally, Robin wanted to be a concert pianist, but when injuries made playing debilitating, Robin went on to study international marketing and business at Indiana University Kelly School of Business before moving overseas.

Compassion in Action

“Never judge someone until you walk a mile in their shoes.”

Robin began teaching yoga to the expatriate community while she was living in Saudi Arabia. Through teaching people of different cultural backgrounds in a foreign environment, as well as the U.S. military who were serving in Saudi Arabia, Robin began to shape her unique approach to yoga, blending stress relief techniques with asana for a practice that grounded, eased, and healed. Robin’s experience of living and working in different cultures in Europe and the Middle East has given her a unique lens in understanding how specific societal influences can manifest in a client’s body and psyche.

A Global Practice

Robin began working with Rama Jyoti Vernon, pioneer of American yoga and founder of The Center for International Dialogue, which used Pantanjali yoga sutras as tools for conflict resolution, and the American Yoga College (AYC), which embraced the wisdom of all traditions and lineages of yoga. While Robin is a graduate of AYC, it was her 35 years of assisting and being mentored by Rama that has formed Robin's philosophy today.

In 2000, Robin Gueth started the Stress Management Center of Marin as an alternative to the popular "hot" or “power” yoga. She envisioned a healing center in the broadest sense, including yoga, movement, philosophy and lifestyle. More than just a yoga studio, the Stress Management Center has become a hub for education, rehabilitation, community connection, and healing.

It is truly a center for Yoga Therapy in the fullest sense.

Yoga for Real Life Issues

Robin really has some fresh ideas for dealing with aches and pains.  I walk out of my sessions with her feeling taller, looser, just better.  I highly recommend her.”

I used to pull a muscle every season, playing tennis.  Stretching out with Robin at SMC has kept me on the court this whole season without a single injury!  Thanks, Robin!

I want you to know there is no one like you. Your care, interest, patience, and real love, I think, for your yogis cannot be found anywhere else. You have been wonderful to me. I learned a lot, but more than that, you have taken care of me and got me through the bad times.
